Town Hall, Dulverton

Town Hall, Dulverton

Dulverton is a charming market town, secluded in a deep wooded valley in Somerset, on the eastern edge of Exmoor, with the River Barle running through it. In the hills above the town are three Iron Age forts, and the town is first recorded in the Domesday book. Like many towns in the area, Dulverton was a market centre for the wool industry, and fleeces were washed by hand in the river.

The town has many shops, cafes and restaurants, and the Town hall with its external staircases was used in the feature film: 'The land girls'. All Saints church dates from the 15th century.

Many Exmoor beauty spots are easily accessible from Dulverton, notably the ancient Tarr Steps, and Wimbleball Lake. Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in Somerset, has spectacular views across to Wales, and on a clear day, visitors can see right up to the Severn bridges in the Bristol channel, and beyond to the Cotswolds. Activities popular in the area include fishing, sailing, and pony trekking.
