Saturday 20th October - Ration Book Feast from the 1940s

12:30 pm Sat, 20 Oct 2018

FLEUR BARRON mezzo soprano
LOTTE BETTS-DEAN mezzo soprano
CHARLOTTE HEWETT mezzo soprano
with JOHAN BARNOIN piano

Programme to include songs from the forties made popular by the great Vera Lynn, The Andrews Sisters and Gracie Fields including Nice work if you can get it, I got rhythm, That old black magic, In the Mood, We’ll meet again and There’ll always be an England

Corned Beef Fritters, Eggless Sponge and Spam Hash, Glory Buns, Potato Rarebit and Irish Soda Bread, Root Vegetable Soup, Bubble & Squeak and Brown Betty... prepare to be pleasantly surprised at how wartime rations were transformed into the most delicious dishes - which also turned out to be good for the nation’s waistlines and general health too!
We couldn’t put on a feast without a concert alongside it, and we are delighted that mezzo sopranos Lotte Betts- Dean (a City Music Foundation artist), Charlotte Hewett and Fleur Barron with Johan Barnoin at the piano, will present a glorious programme of songs that were familiar at the time and loved by the population at large.

Tickets £50
